NHS ITAD buying is not mysterious, but it is procedural
NHS procurement can feel like a black box until you realise most Trusts follow a familiar pattern: published notices, a tendering portal, and a scoring model that rewards suppliers who reduce risk and provide evidence.
This guide is written for ITAD suppliers and anyone selling into NHS organisations.
1) Where NHS opportunities appear
NHS England points suppliers to the two main public portals for opportunities:
- Contracts Finder
- Find a Tender
Direct tendering opportunities are often published through Atamis, the NHS eCommercial system.
Set alerts for phrases such as IT asset disposal, data destruction, secure disposal, ITAD, WEEE, and media sanitisation.
2) Atamis: why it matters
Atamis is used across the NHS health family as a single eCommercial system for tendering and contract management. Register and keep your company details tidy, as admin delays cost bids.
3) DSPT: when it comes up and why
The Data Security and Protection Toolkit is used to provide assurance about data security practices. It becomes relevant if your contract scope involves access to NHS data or systems.
You do not need to be a cyber consultancy. You need to show clear governance, controls, and a mature process.
4) What NHS evaluators care about for ITAD
The biggest buyer fear is a data incident. Bids that do well make these points easy to mark:
- Security and chain of custody: collection controls, storage security, batch separation
- Sanitisation method and evidence: wipe or destroy rules, reporting at asset level
- Operational capability: turnaround times, capacity for refresh cycles, reporting SLAs
- Governance and assurance: DSPT position, policies, incident handling
5) The easiest way to feel NHS ready
Put a simple evidence pack on your website. Redacted samples are fine:
- Sample wipe report
- Sample certificate
- Chain of custody log example
- Storage security statement and batch separation notes
Straightforward NHS bid checklist
- Alerts set on Contracts Finder and Find a Tender
- Atamis registration completed and kept current
- Method statement written step by step from collection to reporting
- Redacted sample reports and certificates ready
- DSPT position understood and documented if required

Summary
Winning NHS work is about evidence and process, not just price. Use the right portals, show a clear chain of custody, and make reporting and governance easy to assess.
If your bid reads like a safe operational plan, you make the evaluator’s job easier and improve your scores.
